I'm a bit late to the party with this one, but I saw it in a Christmas sale for a silly price so I just had to get one. Was it even worth the ridiculously low price that I paid though? I mean it is a very strange looking Mod with that shape going on. The whole "cut" feature sure makes it look unwieldy! Let's "cut" to the chase and find out.
All photos are at the bottom of the page to keep the review clear and simple.
So, after using this MOD for 2 weeks now, I feel comfortable giving a fair review. The first point to notice is the looks, it sure does look strange and uncomfortable. In practice however, it surprisingly fits very well in the hand with the "cut" section sitting nicely in the crease of the hand between thumb and fingers or opposite, with the finger tips resting on the cut side. It works.
When I read that this Mod can take 18650, 20700 and 21700 batteries, I was expecting this to be a huge block like a brick. But when I took it out of the box, it's actually quite a bit smaller than expected. It is fairly tall, but not as tall as you imagine and it's a lot thinner than I expected too. Be aware however, this is quite heavy being a solid chunk of metal and none of that resin or plastic here thank you very much. It feels solid but again, that gives this a good feel in the hand. Easy now.
I am using a 21700 battery in mine, but with the included adaptor, you can use 18650's with no rattles at all. 20700's also fit well, but there was the slightest hint of a rattle if you shook the mod vigorously! In everyday use, all battery sizes work well. With the battery now installed, we can move on to the screen and menu. Press the fire button 5 times to turn on the Mod. (It's a standard 5 click on and 5 click off affair here.)
The screen is excellent. It's clear, bright and easily legible even outdoors. I didn't have any issues although, due to the time of year, I've yet to test it in bright sunny conditions. I think it will be fine? It is certainly a marked improvement on my previous squonk Mod, the Ijoy Capo 216, which was barely readable in anything other than a dim light. The menu is simplistic and easy to use. There are no second level menu settings or complicated entries to navigate here. To change from Power Mode (or Wattage Mode), click the fire button 3 times to scroll through to the next setting which is TC - SS (Temperature Control - Stainless Steel). Pressing the fire button 3 times again for TC- Ti (Titanium), then TC-Ni (Nickel), then TCR Mode and finally Power Curve, before a further 3 button presses brings you back to Wattage Mode.
To be clear, I don't use TC, TCR or Power Curve Modes so I can't give you any indication of the Mod's performance there. I always use Wattage only. I think most will find the menu easy to follow though with the simple 3 clicks to scroll through each mode. Some might prefer more menu's but I like the simplicity. The only negative is possibly the blue logo that lights up on the front below the screen. You can't turn it off! You can have the logo illuminate only when pressing the fire button to have a vape, or have it always on (bit of a battery drain). Press the fire button 4 times to cycle through each of the 2 settings to your preference. Holding the power button and the down button with the Mod turned off will display the batteries remaining voltage which is a nice handy touch. Still with the Mod turned off, hold the up and power button to change the settings for all three TCR memory slots. Yeah, OK then.
In use, I had no issues at all. It fires instantly and seems to match the Wattage of the Ijoy so no complaints there. The paint on the Mod is still intact, although they do include a couple of plastic round discs which are to place underneath your atomiser, I assume to prevent it scratching the top of the Mod when you screw the atomiser on. The buttons are responsive and don't rattle and the battery door is a nice simple magnetised back plate, again with no rattles. The squonk bottle is nice, clear and soft to touch but not too soft. The squonking action is spot on here with a very simple press action to pump a nice amount of E-Liquid out into your RDA/RDTA.
I do have a couple of minor negatives, one of which I've already mentioned.
The Blue LED Logo can't be turned off.
No spare squonk bottle.
All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase and have no qualms recommending it to anyone looking for an easy to use single battery squonk Mod.
