Smok Species Kit V2

This is a review of the new V2 Smok Species Kit, including the TFV8 Baby V2 tank using the latest Smok Mesh Coils. So, new MOD but slightly updated old tank! Does it go together? Does it work? Do I care? Well read on my friends and let's take this for a toot.

Smok Species V2 Kit — Smok Mod with TFV8 V2

After 6 years of vaping, this is actually my first ever Smok Mod or tank! Right, let’s see what we have here then. On opening the box, the first thing I see is the Mod and first impressions are good. I really like the look of it, the colours and finish are really nice indeed. Under the felt pad layer is the tank, USB cable and accessories. Everything that you would expect to see.

After priming the coil, filling the tank and popping a couple of 18650 batteries in the Mod, it was time to put the kit through its paces. So let’s start with the tank. This is the Smok TFV8 Baby V2 tank with the new A1 coil pre-installed and an A2 coil in the box. I alternated between the 2 coils with each different flavour juice I put through the tank and in my opinion, the single mesh A1 coil performed better than the dual mesh A2 coil. Both were actually very good for flavour and cloud production but the A1 definitely had the better flavour. I was actually impressed! The tank itself is easy to fill with a neat push button that slides the top out to reveal the large filling hole. The only negative with the tank is the capacity of 2 ml, which isn’t actually Smok’s fault thanks to the ridiculous TPD laws. The tank emptied within 10 vapes! I was constantly topping up the tank every 5 minutes and that is not an exaggeration.

Now onto the Mod itself. As I stated earlier, it looks great. The fire button is a bar fire type and here, there are no rattles and it gives a positive feel when pressing. The screen is bright and clear, full colour and it just looks great. The text is easy to read and the menu is very easy to navigate and use. The paint finish is of a high quality and looks like it will take quite a few knocks and scrapes, although I haven’t tested that out myself! Again, I’m impressed. In use, the firing is instant with no delay at all. It hits exactly as expected no matter what Wattage is used, although I can't test it for actual accuracy but it "feels" spot on. I don't use Temp Control so I haven't tested this feature at all, sorry! All in all though his is a really great Mod.

Overall, this is an excellent kit that looks and feels great and just works so well. The coils aren't the absolute best I will admit, when compared with the likes of the Freemax Mesh Pro, but it's not that far off and stll gives good flavour. I’ve heard all the horror stories from various reviewers regarding Smok products but on this kit, I would be more than happy to recommend to anyone. Just make sure that you buy a 5 ml bubble glass for that tank!
